Hearne Fine Art is having an artist’s reception at 5:30 p.m. tonight for the new exhibition, “Intimate Spaces and Places,” recent works on paper and canvas by Henri Linton. Linton will talk about the work Saturday at 2 p.m.
Linton taught art and was chair of the art department at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff for four-plus decades, and is recognized as one of the state’s premier artists. In his statement below, Linton talks about the new perspective he is taking in these works. He’s well known for his birds’ eye view landscapes, but if the images on the Hearne website are any indication, it looks like he’s brightened his palette as well. He writes:
“For the last thirty-five years, the landscape of the Arkansas Delta, as seen from the air, has been the central motif and the primary inspiration for many of my paintings. But after years of hovering over the Delta, I have finally returned to Earth to take a closer, more intimate look at the spaces and places that I have visited so often as I travel the byways, highways and back roads of Arkansas. My work continues to be about our transformation from one place to another and how the landscape is in a constant state of flux when altered by our point of reference in time and space. The paintings become my record of this journey in space.”
Hearne is at 1001 Wright Ave.
