Nineteen Arkansas artists and three artists with ties to Arkansas are among the 30 whose work was selected to appear in the 58th annual Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Arts Center. The Arts Center announced the names today.
Juror for the show, which features 52 artworks and is set for June 10 through Aug. 28, was fine art dealer Elizabeth K. Garvey, co-founder and owner of Garvey-Simon Art Access Inc. in New York. She chose work from artists in Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina and from Oregon. (The latter three states aren’t eligible for the Delta, a regional show, but the artists had ties to Arkansas.)
Little Rock artists whose works have been accepted into the show include David Bailin, a previous Grand Award winner; Win Bruhl; Anais Dasse; Bryan Frazier; John Green; Mia Hall; Heidi Hogden; Tim Hursley; Joli Livaudais (Cammack Village); Laura Raborn; Nathaniel Roe; and Katherine Toler. Lawrence McElroy of Alexander; Dustyn Bork of Batesville; Cathy Wester of Conway; Anne Greenwood of Hot Springs; Sabine Schmidt of Fayetteville; Tom Richard of Monticello; and Dusty Mitchell of Mountain View also had work accepted. The three outliers with ties to Arkansas include Hunter Stamps of Louisville, Ky., who formerly taught at the University of Central Arkansas; Louis Watts of Chapel Hill, N.C., formerly of Bentonville; and Arkansas native Brooke Budy of Portland, Ore.
Other artists whose work was selected include Michael Elliott-Smith of Alexandria, La.; Pokey Alrutz of Springfield, Mo.; former Grand Award winner Mark Lewis of Tulsa, Okla.; Paula Kovarik and Jeanne Seagle, both of Memphis, Tenn.; Julie Brook Alexander and Randall McCabe, both of Houston, Texas; and Steven Barker of Mt. Pleasant, Texas.
Juror Garvey’s gallery focuses on works on paper, the Arts Center’s primary collection focus. She will choose the $2,500 Grand Award and two $750 Delta Award winners. The Arts Center’s Contemporaries group will choose a recipient for a $250 Contemporaries Delta Award. Garvey will give a lecture and announce winners at 6 p.m. June 9 at the members reception.
The exhibition is supported by the Andre Simon Memorial Trust in memory of everyone who has died of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).
