I’ve heard good things about Cache
since it opened, but I get to the River Market less frequently than I'd like, so eating at Cache was a pleasant new experience. And it is an experience. Consider this an ode to their food, because I don’t have one bad thing to say.
I’m personally a fan of some liquid with my lunch, and Cache has a nice cocktail menu with some twists on old favorites, such as the Sarsaparilla Old Fashioned
. Exactly what it sounds like, the sarsaparilla adds a distinct, pleasant overtone of licorice to the classic beverage. My dining companion ordered the Lavender 75
, a mix of gin and champagne that I was wary of; luckily, my concerns were unfounded. The drink was de-lish, well-balanced on all fronts.
The menu provided quite a few options, including pizzas (cooked in a proper pizza oven), sandwiches, salads, full entrees, and small bites. Though I was tempted by the calamari, I waited for my main of Blackened Salmon
on rice pilaf with asparagus. Sounds good, right? It’s better than good. The rice pilaf with fresh carrot slivers and an obviously generous amount of butter was mouth-watering, eyes-closing good. The asparagus? Perfectly cooked. And the salmon, no surprise, was equally delicious, blackened ever-so-lightly.
My companion ordered the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. I’ll be honest—my response to her selection was an arched eyebrow. But then it arrived at the table. This was the biggest wrap I think I’ve ever seen, and certainly the most beautiful. She let me take a bite, and truly, it’s hard to tell which meal I enjoyed more. The flavor of the crunchy-outside chicken built, but never became too hot, and the layers of flavor coupled well with the pickles and chips on the side.
There are less expensive lunches in town—for a drink and a main, minus my usual dessert and frequent appetizer, the total came in at about $35. That being said, from my experience this is on the list of the best half-dozen lunch spots in Little Rock, and I’m willing to pay for that. Incidentally, we arrived at 12:30; given we were in the middle of prime lunch time in a business-heavy part of town, the crowd was surprisingly thin. Only about three to four other tables were in and out during our time in the restaurant.
Aside from a slightly long wait for the server when we were ready for our tickets, this was a stellar meal I’ll absolutely indulge in again.
