- 2011’s Outstanding in the Field at Scott Heritage Farm
On October 16, Scott Heritage Farm will host Outstanding in the Field, part of a national eat-local celebration that began 13 years ago in Santa Cruz, California and has toured each year since. The premise is to literally bring the diner to the dinner. Long family-style tables are set up in the fields of a local farm, and a guest chef (in our case, Jeffrey Ferrell of Ashley’s) prepares products from the host-farm. After cocktail hour, diners tour the farm, and then everyone — farmers, chefs, event organizers and diners — share an on-site meal. Jim Deneven, the Outstanding in the Field founder and organizer, travels from event to event on a vintage bus, with an ever-changing crew. This is Scott Heritage’s second year to host the evening. Last year, Arkansas Times sent Kat Robinson to check things out.
No word yet from Chef Jeff and what he’s planning this year, but we’ll let you know as soon as we get in touch.
Scott Heritage is a 30-acre, community owned farm about 20 miles southeast of Little Rock, with an adjoining plantation settlement. The event starts at 2 p.m., and tickets are $180 a person.
