Donald Bobbitt, president of the University of Arkansas, has recommended Karla Hughes to be chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
She is currently executive vice president and provost of the 90,000-student University of Louisiana System in Baton Rouge. She must be confirmed by the UA Board of Trustees and would begin work Jan. 15.
Jay Jones has been interim chancellor since Jack Lassiter’s retirement last January. Hughes will be paid $250,000 with standard benefits, a UA spokesman said.
Hughes, 64, has a Ph.D. in agriculture (animal science/food safety) from the University of Tennessee and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nutrition and food science from Kansas State.Her past work includes teaching positions at several universities and worked in statewide organizations in Kansas and Missouri.
