Happy news today in Atlanta. Dr. Kent Brantly, the medical missionary who contracted Ebola in Africa, was released today from the hospital.
His blood tests are now negative for the deadly virus. Another Ebola sufferer is also recovering in an Atlanta hospital. UPDATE: That patient also has been released after successful treatment.
The happy news naturally reminds me of Republican Sen. Jason Rapert of Conway, who was outraged at the decision to bring the sick missionaries to the U.S. for treatment.
You’ll recall that Rapert said it was “ludicrous” and maybe even “treasonous” for President Obama to allow Brantly’s return to the U.S. for treatment. You wonder if Dr. Rapert would be comfortable even today with Dr. Brantly’s presence in the U.S. or Faulkner County. He might still carry cooties, after all.
