More fact checks of Republican TV attack advertising finding the ads lacking in accuracy.
Factcheck.org says a National Republican Senatorial Committee ad against Mark Pryor is heading to the “hall of shame.”
It falsely says he voted to give Social Security benefits to illegal immigrants; it falsely says he voted for special benefits for Congress and, though it accurately says he once voted against a balanced budget measure, it was a meaningless, “sense of Congress” Republican gimmick vote.
So of the three claims made by this ad, only one is factually accurate. And while batting .333 may get a baseball player into the Hall of Fame, we think it qualifies a political ad-maker for another hall entirely.
Then there’s Politifact, with its “mostly false” rating of an ad by the Republican hit squad, Crossroads, on Pryor’s supposed support for raising the retirement age. Some highly selective editing gets the job done here with a wildly out of context snippet of Pryor talking about possible steps years in the future to adjust Social Security finances. There’s a “grain of truth,” in the ad, Politifact notes, but it “ignores critical facts that would give a different impression, so we rate it Mostly False.”
There’s a lot more where these came from.
