The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette recounted this morning a somewhat strained meeting between UALR officials and University of Arkansas System President Donald Bobbitt over his initiative to move the UA aggressively into on-line education, including degree programs.
The fear is that it will harm UALR, already struggling from declining enrollment. On-line students particularly seem to come from the non-traditional student (older) that has long been important to UALR.

A friend notes that a committee at UALR has studied this issue in some detail already. It was presented to the UALR Faculty Senate in May. There are pluses and minuses, but the data showing the growth in on-line study is striking.
