KATV’s Jason Pederson has a report on recent reporting on performance rankings of VA hospitals that put the Little Rock VA in the bottom seven in the country. The comparisons include such variables as mortality rate, infections and length of stay.

A spokesman for the VA in Little Rock sayd the Little Rock hospital suffers in such comparisons because it handles complex problems for veterans from rural areas in six states. This contributes to longer stays, which is the most heavily weighted factor in the ranking.
