Multiple Twitter feeds are saying the New York Senate WILL vote tonight on a same-sex marriage bill, indicating an agreement has been reached on religious protection language sufficient to bring over enough Republicans for adoption. I hope that’s right. It’s been a nail-biter of a week on legislation that enjoys broad support just about everywhere in New York except, notably, the Republican-controlled Senate and the Catholic Church hierarchy.

UPDATE: At moments before 10 p.m. Eastern, the New York Senate began approving legislation legalizing same sex marriage in New York, thus doubling the number of people in the U.S. who enjoy equal treatment under the law. And now it is done. Lot of fights ahead but this is a big win
